Maybe some of you will not see the problem with these following photos. However, if you dig fairly deep into that gutter, to Richard's level, you will clearly see the problem. This is not some doctored photo of a mythical school somewhere, like some of these bad errors floating around the net. This is from school Richard's son attends. He said, "Yeah it would be more funny if this wasn't right in front of my kid's school." Maybe this is just the new plan to start Sex Ed earlier in today's elementary schools.

I have a lot of sympathy for people who post on blogs. Many of them don't have a good spellcheck program and most don't have a very big window in which to type. It is easy to make the casual mistake here and there, and I do it all the time myself. But my wife was blogging until about 3am last night, trying to get all of her pictures loaded. I kept telling her to come to bed, but she kept going. As you can see, the 3am postings can readily go downhill. Click on the picture to see it up close. Thanks to Allyson G. for submitting this.

Worst SpellCheck Error Ever FAIL

I have for a long time now preached to my students the importance of not just allowing SpellCheck to do the proofreading work for them to find the errors. No matter how much I stress this though, the inevitable errors come to me in their papers. These include everything from writing a sentence like "George Washington lead (though doubtless he did use lead...) the colonists to victory" to other sentences such as "She did not no weather or not to go with them because it was along way away." My personal favorite was simply a master of all SpellCheck errors. While writing a paper on early English colonists and their relations with Native Americans, one student thought SpellCheck had done the work, but found out after the paper was graded that SpellCheck just cannot catch everything. The sentence he intended to write (albeit a pretty bad one to begin with) was: "The colonists were just sitting there on the Indian's land with no plans to leave." However, in a tragic typographical error, the student actually wrote, including one extra letter H, with both hilarious and embarrassing results: "The colonists were just shitting there on the Indian's land with no plans to leave." Of course he also missed the possessive plural form of Indians, but the extra H was by far the best. In grading his paper, I responded, "Though I have no doubt that for biological reasons this sentence is in fact true, I highly doubt this is the point you intended to put across; at least, I hope it was not the point you intended."

I probably deserve a fail too, because AFTER I read this I still tried to bid on it. Unfotunately it was too discommodius for me. There are a lot of problems here, but I circled my favorite.
